Why the train suits Hua Hin in particular
- Hua Hin station is in the centre of town, walking distance from the night market and the main street; buses stop at a terminal outside town.
- The return journey is predictable. On a Sunday evening the train takes the same time as always, while the road can stretch to five hours.
- There are slow local trains stopping everywhere and faster express services stopping at few stations; compare the arrival time, not just the departure.
- All southern-line trains leave from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal. From Sukhumvit or Silom, allow about 45 minutes to reach it.
Minivans: fast, but "departs when full"
Minivans are ideal on weekdays or for early starts. Know that:
- Some operators wait for a full van before leaving; booking online in advance locks a departure time.
- Luggage space is limited. With two or more suitcases, take the bus or train instead.
- The drop-off in Hua Hin is near the centre but rarely at your hotel; expect a short onward ride.
Plan the return differently from the outbound
Any option works on the way there. For the return on a Sunday or the last day of a Thai holiday:
- Take an afternoon train (book ahead; seats sell out), or
- If using a minivan or bus, leave before noon or after 8 p.m. to avoid the worst traffic.
