Hat Yai to Koh Lipe — Van + Speedboat Times and Fares via Pak Bara (September 2026)
Combined van-and-speedboat tickets from Hat Yai airport or the city leave between 08:00 and 11:30, take about 4 hours and cost ฿500–650; the last boat from Pak Bara goes early afternoon. Which departure to match to your flight, what happens on arrival with no pier, and what changes in the monsoon.
Quick answer: book a combined van + speedboat ticket. Vans collect at Hat Yai airport and in the city between 08:00 and 11:30, drive 2 hours to Pak Bara pier, and the speedboat takes about 1.5 hours to Koh Lipe: ฿500–650 all in, on the island by 12:00–15:15. The last boats leave Pak Bara in the early afternoon, so a flight landing after about 11:00 means a night in Hat Yai. November to May only for daily service.

The combined ticket, and why it is the one to buy
Operators on the 12Go listing — Andaman Sea Tour and Transport (from ฿500–570), Seasatun Travel (฿620), Satun Pakbara Speed Boat Club (฿630), Taweesub (฿650), Dee Travels (฿600) — sell the van and the boat together. The point is not the price, which is about the same as buying the two legs separately; it is that the van waits for your flight and the boat waits for the van. Do it yourself and a 20-minute delay at the airport becomes a night in Pak Bara.
- Pick-up. Most tickets offer Hat Yai airport arrivals hall or a hotel/bus-station pick-up in the city; choose at booking. The airport is 12 km west of town on the Pak Bara side, so airport pick-ups are the quickest.
- Which departure. Match it to your flight: landing at 09:00 → the 10:10 or 10:30 pick-up; landing at 10:30 → 11:15 is the last realistic one. Anything landing after 11:00 needs the next day's boat.
- Pak Bara. The van drops you at the pier office, where you exchange the voucher for a boarding sticker. There is a 30–60-minute wait, a small market and a 7-Eleven.
- The boat. Speedboats seat 30–50, sit low, and the 1.5 hours can be wet and bumpy in a swell. Sit at the back for less bounce; keep electronics in a dry bag.
Arriving on Koh Lipe
The island has no jetty. Speedboats tie up at a floating pontoon off Pattaya Beach and you transfer to a longtail (฿50–100 per person, paid on the spot) for the last 200 m, then wade the final steps. Rangers collect the Tarutao National Park fee at the pontoon — foreign adults pay several times the Thai rate; have cash. A wheeled suitcase is a burden here; a backpack goes over your shoulder onto the longtail.
Pattaya Beach is the busy side with the boat traffic; Sunrise Beach across the walking street is the quiet one.
Doing it yourself
From Hat Yai bus station (Talat Kaset), minivans run to La-ngu and Pak Bara through the morning for ฿150–250, about 2 hours. At Pak Bara buy the speedboat ticket at the operators' counters: ฿650–700 in high season, departures clustered 09:30–13:30 with occasional later boats. Total cost is much the same as the combined ticket; you gain nothing but risk.
The season
- Late October to May: every operator runs daily, several boats a day, the island fully open.
- June to September: the south-west monsoon. Boats are reduced to one or two a day on calmer days and cancelled outright in bad weather; many resorts close. If you travel then, book a ticket that can be moved, confirm the day before, and keep a spare night.
