The minibus

Lanta Transport runs the Trang–Lanta shuttle four times a day. It collects from the railway station (the Bangkok night trains arrive in Trang around 08:00–10:00, in time for the 11:00 van), the bus terminal, Trang airport (for the morning flights from Bangkok) and hotels in town, then drives west and south to the mainland car-ferry pier at Hua Hin (Krabi province, not the resort town), crosses to Lanta Noi in 15 minutes and continues over the Siri Lanta bridge to Lanta Yai, dropping at the resorts down the west coast. Three hours to Saladan, four to Klong Nin. The ฿279 and ฿419 fares are the same service at different times; the dearer ones are the peak departures. Fourteen seats, one bag each.

The speedboat, in season

From November to April, Tigerline's high-speed boat leaves Pak Meng pier (40 minutes west of Trang; the fare includes the van from town or the station) at 10:30 and 11:30, hops down the Trang islands — Koh Mook and Koh Ngai — and reaches Saladan pier on Koh Lanta at 13:00. ฿1,250–1,550, so three to five times the minibus, for two and a half hours of the Andaman instead of the highway and the chance to get off at Koh Mook or Koh Ngai on the way. In the monsoon (May–October) the boat does not run and the minibus is the only option.

Tigerline also sells a cheaper van + car ferry version (13:00 → 15:30, ฿400) that follows the minibus route.

Off the night train, want the easy way → 11:00 minibus.
Landing at Trang airport around 10:00–11:00 → 12:00 minibus; the airport pick-up is included.
High season, want the islands en route → Tigerline 10:30 speedboat.

On Koh Lanta

The minibus goes to your resort; the speedboat lands at Saladan, the village at the north tip, where songthaews and resort trucks charge ฿100–300 per person down the west-coast beaches (10–40 minutes). Scooter rental (฿250–350 a day) is how most people get around the island's one road.
