The pier: Thalen, not Krabi town

Boats for Koh Yao Noi do not leave from Krabi town's river pier or from Ao Nang. They leave from Thalen pier (Tha Len) on the coast north-west of Krabi town, 30–40 minutes by road from town and about 45 minutes from Ao Nang. That is why the combined ticket exists: the van does the road leg to a pier you would otherwise pay ฿500–700 to reach by taxi.

Public longtails

The cheap way if you are already at Thalen: wooden longtails cross to Koh Yao Noi for ฿150–200, taking about an hour, and leave when there are enough passengers — typically a few departures between morning and mid-afternoon. Slower, wetter, and with no timetable to plan a flight around, but fine for a day trip or if you are staying near the pier.

On arrival

Boats use Manoh pier on the east coast (some operators use Tha Khao, a few kilometres north). Resorts send a pick-up truck if you tell them your boat time; otherwise island songthaews charge ฿50–100 per person to the main beaches on the east coast, 10–20 minutes. The island has one main road, no 7-Eleven on every corner and a quiet, low-key feel — that is the point of it.

Coming from Phuket instead

Koh Yao Noi sits between Krabi and Phuket, and boats also run from Bang Rong pier on Phuket's north-east coast (about 30 minutes by speedboat). If you are starting in Phuket, that is the shorter route; from Krabi, Ao Nang or Railay, Thalen is.
